In Vallegrande, a remote village in the Bolivian Andes, Che Guevara was captured 49 years ago by the US-supported, authoritarian regime’s army, and executed without trial the day after. Today in this village, inhabitants honor him and regret the way this happened. At the only tiny shop of the village, the grandma owner told us how she brought him his last meal before execution, and why villagers regret the brutal end of the fight against the dictatorship and capitalism. On the house walls, his ideas are still present.
Bolivian president Evo Morales recently announced special events to remember the Che 50 years after his execution, in 2017.
